Adults & Volunteers

Make a difference. Volunteer with us.

Everything we do at the 14th is made possible by our brilliant volunteers. Adults from all walks of life give their time - some lead sections, some support behind the scenes, some help with one-off activities. There's no single mould for a Scout volunteer.

The Scout Association provides full training and ongoing support for all volunteers, and every role is fully Disclosure Scotland checked and safeguarded. We're a friendly, welcoming group and we'd be delighted to welcome you aboard.

Volunteer Roles

Ways to get involved

Roles can be as big or small as your time allows - from a weekly commitment to a one-off camp. Here's a flavour of what's needed right now:

🎒

Section Team Leader

Plan and run weekly sessions for Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers. Full training provided.

🤝

Section Team Member

Support a section leader with activities, camps and trips. A great way to start with Scouting.

📸

Skills Volunteer

Have a skill to share? Photography, cooking, music, first aid, IT, crafts - we'd love to have you in for a session!

🚌

Activity Helper

Help out at a camp, trip or activity without taking on a regular role. Every pair of hands helps!

🏕️

Explorer Scout Leader

Lead our Howlers ESU and help shape international and challenge-focused adventures for 14-18 year olds.

🌟

Young Leader

If you're aged 14-18, you can train as a Young Leader and help with a younger section - a great leadership development opportunity!

Our Trustee Board

Like all Scout Groups, the 14th West Lothian is run by a volunteer Trustee Board - formerly known as the Group Executive Committee. The Trustee Board oversees the governance, finances and strategic direction of the Group, ensuring it operates safely, sustainably and in line with the Scouts' values.

🪑

Group Chair

Chairs meetings and provides strategic leadership to the Group. Contact: groupchair@14thwestlothian.org.uk

📊

Group Treasurer

Oversees the Group's finances, charity accounts and fundraising activity to keep the 14th thriving.

👥

Group Support Team Members

Parent/guardian and community representatives who help guide Group decisions, fundraising and events.

Young People

Join one of our sections

We have a section for every young person from age 4 to 25. Whether your child is a curious 4-year-old ready for their first Squirrels session, or a teenager looking for real challenge and adventure, there's a place for them here at the 14th.

To join, you can register interest directly with 14th West Lothian and we'll get in touch to help find the right section and get your young person on the list. Alternatively, you can register through the Scout Association's national website at https://www.scouts.org.uk/groups.

Please note that our sections are often full, so places aren't always available right away. Where a waiting list is in place, priority is given to families where a parent or guardian is willing to volunteer.

No young person is excluded due to financial hardship.

We work hard to ensure that every young person can fully participate in all our activities, regardless of their family's financial situation. Please e-mail our Treasurer in confidence at treasurer@14thwestlothian.org.uk - we always find a way.

Any questions? We're here to help.

Whether you're not sure which section is right, or you want to know more about volunteering - just get in touch. We're a friendly bunch!
